County Temporarily Shuts Pryibil Beach

Health officials say runoff from Wednesday's rainstorm could make water unsafe.

Storm water runoff from Wednesday's downpour has prompted Nassau County Department of Health authorities to close Pryibil Beach in Glen Cove and 18 others within the county for 24-hours as a precautionary measure.

The runoff from the heavy rainfall, health officials said, can increase levels of bacteria used to measure bathing water quality and make it unsafe for use.

The beach, which sits just off of Lattingtown Road, is one of 14 along the North Shore that the county shutdown Thursday. Five beaches were closed on the South Shore. Health officials expect the beaches to reopen tomorrow.
