County Opens Shelters as Nor'easter Approaches

Glen Cove, Farmingdale, Plainview sites opened at 8 a.m.

County Executive Edward Mangano issued a storm alert yesterday announcing a number of shelters being opened Wednesday to serve those under evacuation orders from storm surge and flood zones.

Glen Cove High School, Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School in Plainview and Farmingdale High School are set up as shelters for residents in need.

The city-run shelter at Glen Cove High School was moved to the Glen Cove Senior Center Monday, according to the Glen Cove School District.

The County also opened shelters at the following locations:

  • Nassau County Community College (including special needs shelter), P Building, 1 Education Dr., Garden City
  • Levittown Memorial High School, 150 Abbey Ln., Levittown
  • Pet Shelter, 241 Miller Ave., Garden City

A high wind warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
