Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and her supporters opened her campaign headquarters Oct. 6

With just weeks remaining until the 2011 general election, Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, candidate for Nassau County Legislator, 18th District, opened her campaign headquarters Oct. 6.

DeRiggi-Whitton said the most important issue to her was the economy.

"We must take small steps, we can't waste anymore money," she said. "We spent $2 million on the Coliseum vote, we've wasted money fighting NIFA, we've wasted money in the redistricting process. There's millions and millions of dollars going to private law firms, and we have to cut that out before we go after employees."

DeRiggi-Whitton, D-Glen Cove, is running against 2010 13th State Assembly District candidate Robert Germino, R-Glen Cove.

DeRiggi-Whitton announced she would run for the position after Diane Yatauro decided to retire from politics to focus on family life.

Her lips are moving but there's nothing intelligible coming out. What a disaster!

Delia is the right choice for the our district!
Mangano treats our taxes like his own private ATM paying out tax money to his lawyer friends.

Congratulations to you Delia on your incredibly successful campaign headquarters opening. You had well over 100 people attended showing their support to you. I am proud to say you are a friend and know that you are the best candidate for this position. You are tough in your stances, i.e., the Nassau Coliseum tax (there is a reason you were a New York State Pitching champion) while your opponent took no stance. You don't resort to name calling or spreading false information- you have already proven that you are compassionate, caring, intelligent and are a friend and ear for the people of our district. Thank you for all your hard work in the City of Glen Cove and let's continue that at the county level!

Hard work for the City of Glen Cove? Her hard work consisted of her saying "Aye" to all of Suozzi's proposals that helped raise my taxes through the roof. I could have done that. Name one proposal she came up with during her time on the city council. She also was great at saying "Aye" to the FREE health care for her entire family. That is wasteful spending for only 2 hours worth of work. Deila is a nice lady. She is a lot of the things you mentioned. But then again so is my mom. Does that mean my mom should run for legislator? I watched the debate and she is not very politically smart. I can honestly say that I am more qualified than her. Rob wil cut spending where it will make a difference. She is talking non sense, always harping on a stadium vote. Every county in the US that has ever had a stadium built has let the people vote on it. Believe it or not, but there is a world outside of Long Island. There are many other states that would love to get the tax revenue generated from having the Islanders move. The Tax revenue generated from keeping the Islanders far outways the cost of the vote. It's all a negotiation process. By the way, I was an all star First Baseman in high school. Am I qualified to run for legislator?

One politician who makes sense. The 'tax revolt' group ignores the fact that we all benefit from government, which costs money (schools, police, fire, roads, water, parks, sanitation, activities centers, transportation....) but it is only reasonable to recognize that the budget is not infinite and that we have to watch for waste. That's Delia. Let's do it.

Are you happy that government costs this much? Look at the total compensation. It's time for the unions to renegotiate. Im sick of paying these union salaries with my money. The money is just not there to pay them anymore. Do you think the union leaders care about police layoffs? No! The leaders have it made. Their total compensation of over $200,000 would be in jeopordy. In unions, the senior will always eat their young. What is Delia's stance on these salaries? How is she going to generate the revenue that is no longer there to pay the 1100 cops making $150,000 or more?

It is so important to have credible people running for office and Delia DiRiggi-Whitton is certainly that. Her views are measured and well thoughout. I hope people excercise their right and turn out to vote for Delia on Election Day.

There is the empty clang of the far left and far right and the quiet thoughtful decision-making of the balanced center. Go Delia. Dan and Irene Brovey

Go Delia!

"Glen Cove's proposed 2012 budget doesn't address its deficit and includes revenue assumptions that may be overly optimistic, according to a review by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office.

The review called on the city council to devise a long-range financial plan to eliminate a general fund deficit of $5 million. It also criticized some of the city's borrowing practices."

The NYS Comptroller report is much more positive about Glen Cove than NIFA is about the county where Rob has his Mangano political job….did I say job, I meant position

Putting party loyalties aside, how can anyone explain this fiscal mess Glen Cove is in and give Deriggi-Whitton a pass? Was she or was she not sitting on the city council for years when all these spend, tax and borrow decisions were made? And if she was ineffective in challenging Suozzi, then why the heck is she touting HER record on the council. Can't have it both ways. I'm a life long Democrat, so is my wife. We're not so sure this time around about our vote.

Ms. DeRiggi/Mrs. Whitton has been nothing more than a nodding puppet for the Suozzi administration. Did you watch the debate? She needed to read that she was a mother of three children!!! She has never, and I mean NEVER, had an idea or informed opinion in her life. It is laudable that her father has so much ambition for her, but it is unconscionable to put a person so deficient in a position where so much damage can be done. Does anyone wonder what the payback is going to be to the people who have been willing to spend so much money in promotional material to get her elected?

Delia has more credibility and more experience than her Mangano robot opponent.
Mr. Small, you are nothing more than a nodding parrot for your buddy Germino.

Experience? What experience? What credibility? Where so you live? Have you not seen the debates? Obviously not. If you had, Mr. Copeland, you wouldn't write at all in this blog. If we have to elect people who can think, speak and act, then she is not it. As far as Germino, he is not my buddy, no politician is. My vote goes where there I see values and good thinking.

Yes, Mr. Withers. Mr. Copeland has spared himself the embarrassment of seeing a woman read, and poorly, from some prepared notes. I cannot understand why the Democrats have not been able to find someone who is well spoken and intelligent in their ranks. I mean, at the very least, someone that sounds like an adult.

@Paul Copeland. "Hi, my name is Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and I have to read Jay Jacobs' talking points and that I'm a mother of three."

"Hi, my name is Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and I voted myself free health care benefits for years. It's always been that way since my dad was mayor, so why not screw the taxpayers more?"

"Hi, my name is Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and I don't know how much I raised your property taxes because I always rubber stamped tax and spend budgets."

That you, Mr. Copeland support Delia, is fine. You have the right to support whomever you want. That you find her "bright and experienced", however, gives a clear idea of how low your standards are (or how high your indenture). No problem, it's life and this is America. We may have a lot of problems to tackle, but there are still plenty of people with exceptional thinking caps.
No need to reply, Mr. Copland, your comments are of no interest. Thanks.

Ya gotta love these Delia supporters. They can't point to one single accomplishment in her only semi-real job but they certainly can get rah rah about her her bobble-headed performance.
