Glen Cove detectives are investigating a break-in at Cove Deli on Wednesday night.

An unidentified suspect forcefully broke into the door of Cove Deli at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night and made off with a flat screen TV and cash from the deli's register, said Lt. Tom Fitzpatrick of the Glen Cove Police Department.

Police are working towards a description of the perpetrator and say the suspect may have fled southbound on School Street towards Bridge Street.

Michael Maier, owner of Cove Deli, expressed optimism that the Glen Cove Police Department would lead a successful investigation.

Mansion Awarded

Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center received the 2011 “Pinnacle Award” from readers of Successful Meetings – marking the mansion's ninth award.

DeRiggi-Whitton Saves Live

Glen Cove Councilwoman Delia DeRiggi-Whitton saved the life of a Greenvale Wells Fargo employee on Tuesday.

DeReggi Whitton – who recently began her bid for Nassau Legislature on the Democratic ticket – performed the Heimlich Maneuver on a male employee at the Wells Fargo on Northern Boulevard after noticing the man was choking on a pretzel.

DeRiggi-Whitton said she first noticed the man, who declined to give his name,  slouched over his computer and then noticed the bag of pretzels.

DeRiggi-Whitton said there is one message she hopes residents take away from Tuesday’s incident: the importance of learning lifesaving maneuvers.

“I took a CPR course when I worked at Pryibil Beach, and this is the second time I had to use it,” she said. “So that’s the message. I was lucky. The course was like an hour, and in n my regular day to day life, I’ve used it on two different occasions.”
