Holocaust Center Lauded by Nonprofit Rating Agency

Reviewers recognize Center as "museum with a heart and soul."

The Holocaust Museum & Tolerance Center announced that it received a 2012 Top-Rated Award from an organization that provides user reviews of nonprofits.

The group, GreatNonprofits, compiled a list of organizations that have received large numbers of positive reviews from people involved with them, such as donors, volunteers and educators.

One teacher wrote of the Center: "Every year I bring my sixth-graders. They enter the grounds as one type of child and leave a completely new one. The amount and the depth of knowledge, history, and overall humanitarian awareness is so precise and well thought-out, it would take days, if not weeks, to get all of that in a classroom."

The Center made the list at an important time of year as donors look for causes to support during the holiday season, according to director of development Jennifer Low.

"We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2012 Nonprofit,” said Low. “We appreciate the extraordinary support from our donors and stakeholders. It is only through their ongoing dedication that we are able to continue our work to teach the lessons of the Holocaust through education and community outreach.”

She said being on the list gives the Center more credibility and provides "on-the-ground" testimony; recognition from the community it serves.

One reviewer praised the people who turn black-and-white photos and footage into lessons relevant to current events: "Staffed by caring, accepting, and proactive survivors, volunteers, and staff, the Center exudes a determined purpose and mission in teaching the lessons of the Holocaust. What a special place to visit, immerse yourself in, and be a part of."

Another reviewer said, "It is a museum with a heart and soul."
