Mary Anne T. Germino, who served as a nurse in the Glen Cove public schools for 18 years, died Thursday. She was 62.
“She was beloved by many members in the community and I’m finding that out now as we continue to receive an outpouring of love and condolences of sorrow,” her son Robert said.
“My family and I really thank the community for their support.
“My mom was very much proud to live in Glen Cove. She cared more about everyone else than herself,” he said. “She was always concerned about others, apologizing for inconveniencing them. She was truly a giving person.”
In her honor, Germino, a Marine veteran and former candidate for the Nassau County Legislature, said he and friend Scott Genova, have started a cancer foundation, Germino & Genova Cancer Foundation, Inc. Genova, a police officer, is undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer. “We'll be operational within a year,” Germino said. “We’re going to give money to cancer research and give a scholarship in their names to individuals in the community. That will be occurring within the year.”
Besides her son, Robert (Natasha), she leaves children Damien and Clare Germino, her former husband, Robert A. Germino Sr. and her brother, Joseph A. Izzo and her sister, Sr. Bernadette M. Izzo. O.P.
Visitation is scheduled today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Whitting Funeral Home 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Glen Cove, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

To The Germino Family,
My heart and prayers go out to you all. Maryanne's love for her children gave her the courage to battle her illness of cancer. Every time I would see her upon visiting her in the hospital, she would always make me laugh. Maryanne is a great loss to all, especially that of a mother, sister, friend, and the Glen Cove community. She had been my eldest son, Josephs(13) school nurse in Deasy School . He remembers her as well. I will always think of Maryanne as a woman of Great love, and Courage. I am sure she is smiling down from Heaven.
