Modern Rendition Of A Disney Classic A Hit At Morgan Park
The Plaza Productions version of "Sleeping Beauty" was well received by those in attendance Saturday night.
Men, women, children and a gaggle of geese were all in attendance, filling up the entire lawn from the front of the stage to the beginning of the parking lot, for the Plaza Productions rendition of "Sleeping Beauty" Saturday night at Morgan Park.
The modern adaptation of the Disney classic was a hit with the on goers, with the evil fairy Trollarina incorporating pop culture references into her performance, from doing the "Macarena" dance during the musical number "Spinning" to singing a Pussycat Dolls hit song with the slightly altered lyrics, "don't you wish your girlfriend was a troll like me."
Virginia Laudisio, who moved to Glen Cove in 1972, said she attended the performance because the night was a good one to spend outdoors and her favorite aspect of the show was how the cast interacted with the children.
After the show, Laudisio said she was partial to the evil fairy.
"Trollarina, she reminds me of my daughter," she said in her best voice of the character.
She then clarified how her daughter resembled the evil fairy.
"My first born was in shows locally at the high schools, she was in shows at college, and that was her character," she said.
Performance attendee Carolyn Richard, who had her two young daughters with her, also liked the character of Trollarina best.
"She had humor that was more adult oriented and the children found it funny too," she said.
Richard's five-year-old daughters, however, disagreed with their mother, and sided with Sleeping Beauty, although their favorite parts of the show were different.
"I liked when Aurora woke up," said Richard's daughter Kaile, while her other daughter Lexie said, "I liked when Trollarina put her to sleep."
