One room is built like a miniature piazza, and allows children to play “pretend” doctor, grocery shopper, and coffee shop or boutique owner.

The Mineola native, who opened Ladybug Playhouse in September, is a certified teacher with a Masters Degree in Literacy. She taught for eight years in different regions of New York, including Brooklyn and Bellmore on Long Island.

Costa-Rothstock was inspired to open a facility after enrolling her own son in nursery school.

“I thought: I could do this so much better,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to own my own business. When this opportunity came, I took it, and I ran with it.”

The Ladybug Playhouse class curriculum includes math, science, technology, literacy, art/gym, music and dramatic play. Children ages 2-5 have the opportunity to work in group settings, as well as independently.

There is also a smart board and touch screen computers, giving young students a chance to experience the world of technology.

“I wanted it to be a fun place for kids,” she said. “Their first school experience is the most important school experience they’re going to have. If they could love school from now, chances are they’ll love school forever.”

Costa-Rothstock additionally noted that all of her teachers are New York State certified.

Additional programs the Ladybug Playhouse features are Mommy/Daddy/Anybody & Me classes and birthday parties.
