More Than 220 Couples Compete for $20K Engagement Ring

London Jewelers hosted Saturday's Long Island Race for the Ring in Glen Cove.

Saturday's Long Island Race for the Ring saw over 220 teams racing around Glen Cove in hopes of winning a $20,000 Ritani diamond engagement ring.

awarded the ring to Glen Cove couple Gianluca Carrabs and Lauren Huners, who racked 116 points by hunting down clues delivered to their mobile phones.

The scavenger hunt began at the Village Square and ended with an after party at where the ring – among other wedding-related prizes – was presented.

While Carrabs , he expressed his drive to compete again in his application for the event: "My girlfriend of five years and I did the Race for the Ring in October and didn't win," he said. "She deserves another chance for me to give her the ring of her dreams. She's almost done with law school, and it's the perfect time for me to be able to give her this ring. I know it would mean the world to her, not only to get this ring from me, but to know that it's something that we won together, as a couple. That would make it all the more special to her, and to me."

New York radio station Z100 – along with Z Morning Zoo DJ Carolina Bermudez – was on hand to emcee the event.

Hundreds of couples lined up along Village Square to participate in the event, which was organized by the owners of , the Udell family.

The Udells held a Race for the Ring event back in October and said it was a way of marketing toward young adults looking to take the next step in their relationship.

"We are trying to attract a younger clientele, not just the customer who thinks London Jewelers is above their budget," said Scott Udell, an expert in gems at his family-owned jewelers. "We have jewelry in all price ranges and when a couple is shopping for an engagement ring, we are closely involved every step of the way in helping them find exactly what they want, within their price range."
