Question of the Day: No-Smoke Platforms?

The Long Island Rail Road has banned smoking on its open-air platforms. What do you think of that? How will they enforce it?

On Nov. 13, without much public fanfare, the Long Island Rail Road and MTA banned smoking on its open-air platforms. The law was actually passed by the New York State Legislature and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The rule also applies to open air platforms on Metro North Railroad, except in Connecticut. The subways and railroads in the metropolitan area have banned smoking inside their stations, terminals and on their trains for years now.

What do you think about the ban on open-air smoking?

Do you think this is intrusive? Or do you feel it's a step to help eliminate the dangers of second-hand smoke? Do you think that this law is enforceable? Tell us in the comments.

Personally, I love the idea.. only problem is, I can see tons of smokers banned together near the entrance way to the Railroad station - therefore making a cloud of nicotine coulds that we have to pass in order to get to the station -- of Freaking YUK !!........ If half these people knew how disqusting they smell (like old ashtrays) - I believe they would stop.. but since they are inodated with nicotine in their systems.. they dont smell exactly what they are wearing (on their clothes) and spuing out to the general public.......... (( sorry to be so blunt - but too bad - you smokers Stink ))... I cant even hang out with a smoker (even if they are my friends and I truly love them)..I'd rather just talk on the phone with them, or have them 15 or more feet away from me.............. I cant breath around them.....
