Residents Report Timely Snow Removal in Glen Cove

Snow started to come down late Tuesday night.

"New York City should take a page out of Glen Cove's snow removal book," said resident Sean McCalmont who was out in the streets Wednesday morning, and reported that the streets were clear for the morning commute.

While The National Weather Service has not released snow fall accumulation for Glen Cove, residents are estimating anywhere from 8 to 15 inches.

Nearby areas like Garden City and Floral Park have been hit with 4.8 and 9.7 inches, respectively, according to The National Weather Service.

, as well as , announced on Tuesday night that all classes and activities would be cancelled on Wednesday based on predictions of extreme weather.

–in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Snow started to come down around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Resident Doris Meadows said that her street had already been plowed at 7 a.m. when she first stepped outside: "In fact, I think they were cleared prior to 5 a.m. when I first woke," she said.

Snow plow operator Michael Giovaniello–whose white Jeep Rambler is a welcome site throughout the area on mornings after a snowfall–said that he had been up since 3 a.m. making sure the streets were cleared.

"I began in Locust Valley, where it felt like they got about two feet," said Giovaniello, who works with his father in a landscaping business during the summer, then turns snowplow operator in the winter.

No calls were made to on Wednesday as of noon, according to Chief Anthony Tripp. Tripp said that all residents should make sure the fire hydrants in front of their properties are clear.

The LIRR is operating on a reduced weekday schedule. The LIRR said it would continually evaluate the impact of the storm on and urged customers to consult the MTA’s website for the latest updates on branches that may be affect by cancellations. The Glen Cove and Glen Street LIRR stations are serviced on the Oyster Bay branch.

LIPA is not reporting any outages in the Glen Cove area, but said in a statement that it is prepared if it does happen.

"Any storm of this nature has the potential to cause power outages and LIPA is prepared to respond. Report any power outage to LIPA immediately either online or by calling 1-800-490-0075, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We will respond to all outages as quickly and safely as possible. Please be aware that hazardous driving and working conditions caused by winter weather may cause delays in our response time," read a statement on LIPA's web site.
