It’s that wonderful time of year again as downtown Glen Cove puts on its holiday spirit. The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) has decorated with the able assistance of Damion Stavredes and the Glen Cove Beautification Commission. The Glen Cove Department of Public Works and National Grid play starring roles as the downtown prepares for the holidays.
Joseph M. Basile Electric Service is donating its services and labor to light the tree.
The annual tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 26th at Glen Cove’s Village Square, at Glen and Bridge Streets.

Why did Patch write up this blurb without once mentioning the word "Christmas", as in Christmas Tree Lighting, Christmas Holiday Season. Since when did Glen Cove succumb to this nasty, politically correct bit of secular nonsense preferring to refer to the season as... Winter Festival. What are we a bunch of pagan Vikings? I resent this description of the Christmas Season that is slowly being shoved down our throats by unwitting dupes and a bunch of folks whose agenda it is to marginalize the Christian faith starting with wiping the word Christmas from our memories. Ask your kids, do they celebrate Christmas in their schools or is it called something that doesn't offend anyone, except us Christians. Time to speak out folks.

Agree Vinny, Sea Cliff has a Christmas Tree lightning ceremony, but Glen Cove gets a Winter Festival. Getting very sick of being "politically correct". It is what it is; a Christmas Tree.

I noticed that the large, beautiful Christmas wreath that used to hang above the exterior door of the library has not been put up for years. The ugly banners that line School St. have a snowflake motif, no mention of Christmas. Who is offended by Christmas?
