Mineola Choral Society presents Mendelssohn's Elijah
Cathedral of The Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave, Garden City, NY | Get Directions »
$20.00
This year, the Mineola Choral Society invites you to an exciting afternoon of classical choral music.
On January 29 at 3:00 p.m., our 50-voice chorus, together with professional soloists and orchestra will present Mendelssohn’s "Elijah" in the beautiful and acoustically excellent sacred space of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. Mendelssohn composed Elijah as a work of fierce dramatic impact that conveys his interpretation of the prophet’s story in the emotion, power and intensity of his music, sometimes expressing deep tenderness and love, and other times evoking images of violent fire, flood and whirlwind.
Plan to join us and experience the imaginative orchestration, the spontaneity and energy, the drama, and the sheer beauty of the arias and choruses that embody this masterwork. Tickets are $20; $15 for seniors and students. For information, call (516) 294-1175 or visit www.mineolachoralsociety.org.

More About Cathedral of The Incarnation
The Cathedral of the Incarnation is not only a historic wonder in the village but a place of worship for a dedicated congregation. Since its founding, music has been an important part of cathedral life. It offers a varied choral program, a concert series and the largest pipe organ on Long Island.
The Cathedral Choir of Men & Boys is one of the few still remaining in the U.S. and Canada and was founded in 1883. Made up of boys, teens and professional men, the choir sings a vast repertoire of choral music masterpieces.
The Cathedral Girls' Choir was founded years later in 1933 and is comprised of 26 girls. They too perform a large repertoire of music. In 1998, the Schola Cantorum was established to expand the repertoire available for the Girls' Choir to sing and also give adult women an opportunity to participate.
Worship is offered Sundays at 8, 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. and at 8 and 10 a.m. during the summer; Tuesday-Thursday at 12:15 p.m. in the Lady Chapel; and on the first Sunday of the month from October-May a Choral Evensong is offered at 4 p.m. using the traditional Cathedral model.
The Very Reverend Theodore W. Bean, Jr. serves as dean.
