This week the Glen Cove Fire Dept and Glen Cove EMS have responded to 3 separate Carbon Monoxide (CO) incidents. All 3 calls were in residential houses and had elevated readings of the toxic gas. Thankfully nobody became ill because all 3 had properly working Carbon Monoxide detectors that alerted occupants to call the Fire Dept.
This is a reminder to the public that Carbon Monoxide can be present year-long and not just in the colder months. It’s important to have working Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detectors on each floor of your home to protect you and your family. Carbon Monoxide is a toxic, odor-less gas that is produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels. This gas can be produced by oil burners, stoves, cooking pots, generators, etc.
