Community Corner

Community Shops by the Bag Full at Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Closet Tag Sale

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club would like to thank the community for supporting the organization’s Annual Club Closet Tag Sale which took place on Friday, April 4, Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6.

Now in its 30th year, the Tag Sale is truly a neighborhood driven event with a community of donors, volunteers and shoppers working together to make this a successful event year after year for the children of the Glen Cove.

The event began with donations of hundreds of items from furniture to home décor and household goods to clothing and accessories.  Betsy Gibbs, owner of Worth Repeating chaired the Club Closet Tag Sale again and more than 30 volunteers worked to help organize and prepare the gymnasium for the shopping event.  Local businesses helped to promote the sale by posting signs on their storefront windows and spreading word of the sale.

Eager buyers stood in line in the rain on Friday night and paid a $10 fee just so they could preview and get the pick of the lot.  Many shoppers even returned the following day to scoop up items they may have missed on their first trip.  The Sale helped to raise $14,000 (which represents 1.4% of the annual operating budget) needed to run programs servicing more than 700 youth in the Glen Cove community.
