Deasy Elementary School Students Learn Martial Arts

Glen Cove, New York, February 10, 2014 – Principal Nomi Rosen invited GMA Martial Arts & Life Skills, located at 4 Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Cove, to deliver two assemblies to the 300 Kindergarteners through Second graders who attend Deasy Elementary School in Glen Cove. Though the martial arts is frequently viewed as a physical endeavor, Sensei Hender Alvarado and Sensei Andrew Goldberg gave the students a mental workout by teaching them how to "be safe, be kind, and work hard" through the valuable character developing lessons of the martial arts. Topics included "The A-B-C's for Conflict Avoidance," "The Value of a Polite Greeting," and "Dinner before Dessert."

At one point during the assembly, Ethan Graziosi, a student of both Deasy Elementary School and GMA Martial Arts stood before 150 of his fellow schoolmates and their teachers and performed his karate techniques with power, precision, and confidence. "Ethan's ability to courageously demonstrate his skills in front of his classmates really highlights how martial arts training improves confidence and leadership skills," remarked Sensei Goldberg, head instructor at GMA. Ethan along with his schoolmates were courteous and respectful during the interactive presentation. "Principal Rosen, the teachers, and the students were very hospitable and we look forward to continuing to partner with Deasy Elementary School and other schools in our community to enrich the educational environment," said Sensei Alvarado, owner of the karate school.
