Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Honored at Glen Cove National Night Out

It was truly an honor to be recognized at this year’s National Night Out hosted by the city of Glen Cove and the Glen Cove Police department.  I would personally like to thank the Police Department and Chief of Police, Chief Bill Whitton, Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Congressman Steve Israel, Assemblyman Charles Lavine, Senator Carl Marcellino and County Controller George Maragos for their kind words, awards and citations. I am especially proud that Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club was among the prestigious group of outstanding organizations including SAFE and the Glen Cove Youth Bureau and the distinguished leaders overseeing these necessary community programs, Sharon Harris (SAFE) and Arlene O'Dell (GC Youth Bureau).  I am also very grateful to our wonderful community who came out on this beautiful evening to support our organizations, the Glen Cove businesses district and Glen Cove’s Bravest and Finest. 

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club has been a cornerstone of the Glen Cove community for more than 10 decades and through the years, our mission and goal has been to inspire and encourage our members to reach their full potential.  We have provided our community kids with a safe place to go to during the after school hours.  A place they can call their own, where they are motivated and nurtured to believe they are the architects of their futures and with determination, perseverance and trust in themselves, they can achieve the future they aspire to achieve.  With this philosophy in mind, we have designed and put into place life enriching programs to enhance learning and build self-esteem supported by a staff of consummate professionals and outstanding mentors.  The more kids that participate in our Club and Club programs, the more kids stay off the street and out of harms’ way, the more we can positively impact these kids and their futures.  In the end, well-supervised kids with bright outlooks make our community safer and a safer community makes National Night Out an everyday occurrence rather than an annual event.  We want to see our kids walk out our doors at the end of the day feeling great about themselves but more importantly, we want to see our kids leave our Club at the end of their tenure knowing they can make the world a greater place.
