Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Member National Winner of Fine Arts Competition

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club member Edward Abarca was selected as a National Winner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Fine Art Competition and Exhibition for his monochromatic artwork, The Many Faces of Ridiculousness.

Edward, 10, recently won the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Northeast Regional Fine Art Competition and Exhibition for the second year in a row.  The Exhibition took place in Leominster, Massachusetts where Edwards’ artwork was displayed at the Fitchburg Art Museum before heading to Atlanta for judging at the national level.  He was one of 37 regional winners who advanced to the National Fine Arts competition.

“For me, art is more about process than product – Seeing Edward doodling dozens of little cartoon faces in the margins of his homework, convincing him that they are pretty interesting and unique, encouraging him to create a detailed drawing of his faces for our club’s art show, and then seeing his piece win a national art contest is a perfect example of that. I couldn’t be more proud of Edward’s persistence and of his accomplishment,” said Sean O’Callaghan, GCBGC Arts Coordinator.
