Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Receives Grant from Regal Entertainment Group

As part of Regal Entertainment Group’s Summer Movie Express, Regal treated 146 children enrolled in the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club’s summer program to enjoy The LEGO movie at UA Cinema in Westbury on Wednesday, July 23.

The outing was made possible through a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Regal Entertainment Group who provided the Club with a $1,500 grant to help compensate the majority of the costs associated with the outing.  The grant also requires members to participate in a learning activity as part of the movie going experience.   Club members are creating artwork based on the LEGO movie.

The Regal Cinemas Grant and the learning activities associated with the grant is in keeping with the Club’s Summer Travel Through Time theme and Summer Brain Gain efforts, —a Boys & Girls Club program designed to prevent summer learning loss and foster critical creative-thinking skills.  Summer learning losses can stack up year after year, causing low-income children to fall further and further behind, ultimately endangering their chances of high school graduation.  “We are committed to preventing summer learning loss among our members and we can do so by providing kids with ample opportunities to learn while having fun.  We are grateful to organizations like Regal Cinemas who support our cause and offer us unique ways teach our kids,” said Franca Trunzo, GCBGC Director of Operations.

“Regal Entertainment Group is proud to partner with local Boys & Girls Clubs through these grants to cover their costs such as transportation and snacks,” said Ken Thewes, Chief Marketing Officer for Regal Entertainment Group. “Regal believes that this summertime series for kids helps to instill a love of movie-going and inspires the imagination of the next generation.”

“This is a great opportunity for our Boys & Girls Club members, and they couldn’t be more excited about being selected for Regal Entertainment Group’s Summer Movie Express,” said Melissa Rhodes, GCBGC Executive DirectorOur Club is extremely active during the summer season, so we’re always grateful for opportunities that combine fun with engaging learning activities that help our young people stimulate their minds during the summer break.”

The grant agreement requires the Club to pay $1 admission fee per member to the theatre.  A portion of these proceeds will go to the Will Rogers Institute promoting and funding medical research of cardiopulmonary diseases, purchasing neonatal ventilator equipment for medical facilities across the country and by educating the general public on topics of health and fitness.
