Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month Debunk Science Myth

It has often been thought that boys outperform girls in the field of math and sciences.  Girls at Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club are quickly debunking this myth.  Youth of the month for December, Corzaya Davenport, 12 and Anoushka Glouchkov, 9, envision a profession for themselves in the field of science but one with dancing in their hearts.

Corzaya attends Robert Finley Middle School and has been a member at the Club for almost five years.  Corzaya loves science and hip hop and credits the Club for being instrumental in helping her to improve her social outlook and interactions, and becoming more mature.  “The Club and Ms. Desirae (Desirae O’Neill, Middle School Program Coordinator) encourage me to have higher expectations of myself and this has helped me to make better decisions,” said Corzaya.  Corzaya enjoys the Club’s Dance program, socializing with her friends, being involved in Torch Club and volunteering in community outreach projects.  Corzaya would like to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Anoushka, who attends the Landing Elementary School, considers herself very lucky to be a member of the Club, which she joined this past summer when she enrolled in the Project Learn program.  “I love coming to the Club and I wish I could come here every day,” said Anoushka, who like Corzaya, also enjoys science and dancing.  “I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up.”  She credits Ms. Vanessa (Vanessa Caceres, Membership Coordinator) and Ms. Allison (Allison Kaiser, Education Coordinator) for creating such a warm, caring and loving environment for her.  “They comfort me and take care of me like my family.”  In addition to the Dance program, Anoushka participates in the Cooking Up Energy program, Technology classes and educational activities.
