Gold Martial Arts Celebrates 7th Anniversary

Mayor Ralph Suozzi and the Chamber of Commerce joined members of GMA Karate to celebrate seven years serving the Glen Cove community.

Glen Cove, New York, July 27, 2013 – GMA Karate invited Dr. Bill Akpinar, a physician and Shaolin martial arts master to conduct two exciting and informative weapons seminars in honor of the school’s 7th anniversary, one for students ages 3-6, and the second for students ages 7-14. Dr. Akpinar demonstrated the use of various swords and then taught the children a basic sword fighting partner drill using wooden sticks for safety.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi along with Ms. Mary Stanco of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce gathered with members of GMA Karate to congratulate Sensei Hender Alvarado, owner of the martial arts school, on continuing to provide a valuable service to the community over the last seven years. “Sensei Hender and Sensei Andrew: I applaud you for building strong minds and strong bodies; this really is a great place,” said Mayor Suozzi. The celebration concluded with pizza and make-your-own ice cream sundaes for all present.

Sensei Hender Alvarado announced that “because of the major success of our karate and kickboxing programs, GMA Martial Arts will be expanding with our kickboxing program moving to a larger location behind Retro Fitness [located at 4 Cedar Swamp Rd.] and our traditional karate program remaining here at 275 Glen St.” New classes will be forming at both locations: Kid, teen, and adult kickboxing classes will be offered at the new kickboxing facility and an adult only “GMA Combat Club” will be offered at the martial arts school.
