(GARDEN CITY, NY) Center for Inquiry – Long Island (CFI-LI) is pleased to announce Raising Kids to Be Good Grown-Ups, a day-long secular parenting conference for parents and educators. This year’s conference is jointly produced by CFI-LI and the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island (EHSLI).

Recent polls indicate that as many as 1 in 5 Americans identify as non-religious, atheist, or agnostic. As a result, an increasing number of children grow up in secular families, which do not observe religious practices, or in which the beliefs of at least one parent are significantly different from the other. This conference provides a forum for parents raising children in secular homes to share ideas and experiences with one another. Speakers and workshops cover topics like strategies for teaching critical thinking skills, ethical questions, and discussions of how families cope with mixed (or no) faiths.

The day’s program begins with a keynote speech by author and television personality Lenore Skenazy, and continues with a full slate of presentations and workshops for parents with kids of all ages. The day concludes with a talk by award-winning author Dale McGowan.

Both CFI-LI and EHSLI believe in strong family values and the importance of teaching children the importance of compassion, respect, and social responsibility. This conference is presented to help foster a society that encourages open debate and critical thought, as well as investing in the future for our children.
