Common Core Educational Forum Tonight

Educators, experts to discuss controversial new State educational initiative at Glen Cove City Hall.

A panel discussion on New York State's new Common Core educational initiative will be held tonight in Glen Cove City Hall at 7 p.m. The panel is sponsored by Assemb. Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove.

Lavine will be joined by LIU/Post Professor Arnold Dodge, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Administration, Maria Rianna, Superintendent of the Glen Cove School District, and Jeannette Deuterman, Co-Founder of New York State Allies for Public Education and Founder and Administrator of the Facebook Group Long Island Opt-Out.

The meeting will give the community an opportunity to learn what policymakers intended by adopting Common Core and what impact standardized testing is
having on students, teachers and administrators.

“We are hoping to have an honest and open discussion about Common Core and the facts and myths surrounding the current curriculum in our public schools,” said Lavine. “There is concern on the part of administrators, teachers, parents and students; enough so that a dialogue is needed to understand where we are now, where we hope to be and how we get there.”
