Elizabeth Garcia: Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year

Next, Garcia heads to Albany for the the Boys & Girls Club of America's State Youth of The Year competition.

Elizabeth Garcia, this year’s Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, recently received big congratulations from city officials. 

Garcia is recognized as a highly motivated volunteer, a seasonal staff member for the Summer Youth Employment Program and currently, she works as a per-diem staff member. 

Garcia volunteers her time to help children with their homework during a program called “Power Hour.”  In addition, she is involved in community outreach organizations and is known as an outstanding student, excelling in academics at Glen Cove High School. She participates in extracurricular activities which include Kick Line and Key Club.

After graduating high school, Garcia plans to attend college with the goal to open a clinic for expectant mothers and infants. 

Mayor Reginald Spinello congratulated Elizabeth during last week’s City Council meeting and wished her well when she travels to Albany on May 19 for the Boys & Girls Club of America’s State Youth of The Year competition. The state title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club.
