Feb. 18: Weekend Edition

Helping our troops and getting ready for winter break

Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training in Florida, and the weather here isn’t too shabby either. Friday’s temperature will be a balmy 59,  under mostly sunny skies. Get out and enjoy it while you can. Tuesday's forecast has a 30 percent chance of? Guess what? Snow.

Enjoy the weekend Glen Cove. Leading off and batting first:

1. The snow has melted (for the most part), and the temperature is rising. It may be a good time to get your car washed. Check out the Glen Cove Car Wash at 61 Glen Cove Ave.

2. Check back at the Glen Cove Patch at Noon for this week’s House Hunt, a rundown of the open houses this weekend in Glen Gove.

3. The Nassau County A playoffs begin tonight for the Glen Cove High School varsity girls basketball team. The girls travel to Lynbrook to face the No. 5-seeded Lady Owls. Glen Cove is the No. 12 seed.

4. Want to help our troops overseas? The Glen Cove Public Library is hosting “Any Soldier Program” Saturday at 11 a.m. Items and letters will be gathered and sent to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Volunteers are needed to organize the donations, which are put into boxes and brought to the Post Office. Volunteers can earn community service credit. There is no fee to participate but donations would be appreciated.

5. Monday, Feb. 21, is President’s Day. For most school-aged boys and girls, that means the start of winter vacation!
