Great Escape: It's Fun to Swim at the YMCA

Take the plunge in one of the many aqua classes offered at the local Y.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening. It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Don’t let the winter weather stop you from making a splash in a pool. Take the plunge at .

The YMCA offers several aquatic classes from Aquajog – which focuses on deep water walking – jogging and cross-country skiing, and AFYAP/Twinges – geared towards those suffering with arthritis pain or recovering from surgery – to Pre-natal exercise classes for expecting mothers, and a 45-minute Wet & Wild class, which is a high energy, cardio, cross training, and muscle strengthening class.

Don’t know how to swim? Their instructional classes will get you diving in no time. Personalized one-on-one instruction is available for $50 per half an hour lessons or $200 for five lessons. 45-minute group lessons are also available for $92, plus program membership, or $67 plus recreational membership.

To schedule a class or to find out more about classes and instructions visit the Glen Cove YMCA at 125 Dosoris Lane or check them out online
