High School Receives Boardwalk Section as Thanks

Long Beach High School students visited Glen Cove High School to express appreciation for City 2 City's aid efforts; prom dress drive underway.

Glen Cove High School hosted a group of students from Long Beach High School this week who came to present some tolkens of their appreciation for post-Sandy help organized by the City 2 City committee. Glen Cove welcomed 15 students from Long Beach, who delivered a plaque and an intact section of the historic Long Beach boardwalk that was destroyed in the storm. The piece was painted in Long Beach High School's colors, white and blue, and was signed by the school's student leaders. City 2 City committee president Paulo Coelho and members Emily Anderson, Nicole Bedell, Allie Cappiello, Gabriella Ermmarino, Jenifer Ingegno, Kristen Ingegno, Brianna Leon, Caroline Suozzi and Carina Zupa had breakfast with the Long Beach teens and gave them a tour of the school. The Select Chorale treated the group to a performance. As Long Beach struggled to recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the City 2 City committee oversaw activities that raised more than $2,000 in store gift cards for supplies needed by families that suffered losses of property. The group also collected school supplies and coats, conducted a toy drive, held a dinner-and-show fundraiser, a chain link sale and a volleyball tournament involving neighboring Locust Valley and North Shore School Districts. Their efforts were supported by other Glen Cove schools, including Gribbin Elementary School, which raised $200. City 2 City is currently organizing a prom dress drive for Long Beach. Gently-used dresses can be dropped off in Room 118 at Glen Cove High School through April 15. Glen Cove and Long Beach are sister cities as they are the only two incorporated cities on Long Island.
