Below freezing temperatures and bone-chilling winds didn't stop hundreds of runners from taking park in the 5K Evelyn Knapp Run to Remember at Sunken Meadow State Park on Sunday.

More than 400 participants bundled up for the 5K Run/Walk and the 3K Walk to Remember benefitting the Strength for Life foundation, which helps provided free exercise programs and equipment for cancer patients and survivors to aid in their recovery.

Delaney Eichorn, 12, of Locust Valley, was the top female finisher with a time of 18 minutes and 31 seconds on the slightly less than 5-kilometer course.

Skyler Lattuca,14, of Middle Island was the top overall finisher and first male finisher with a time of 15 minutes 59 seconds on the just shy of 5K, or roughly 3 mile course.

The lead runners took an early turn along the 5K Run to Remember's course, leading the group on a slightly shorter than expected route on Sunday, according to race organizers.
