No. 98: Explore Robert R. Coles History Room

Research local history at the Glen Cove Public Library.

How far can you delve into local history? In Glen Cove, the answer is as far back as the 17th century. 

The Robert R. Coles History Room at the boasts an impressive collection of local archives relating to Long Island history – with some materials pre-dating 1668 – the year that marks the founding of Glen Cove.

The materials include books, pamphlets, artifacts, maps, records, manuscripts, periodicals and microfilms of newspapers and documents.

The collection is named for Robert R. Coles, a descendant of one of the original proprietors of Glen Cove, an astronomer, historian and educator who spearheaded the research for the majority of the collection.

Learn about the history of Glen Cove and the surrounding communities on Mondays from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.
