Oyster Bay Seniors Can Register for Computer Classes

Two courses offered in May to allow seniors an easy path to understanding computers and the internet.

Here's a chance for Glen Cove residents to take a no-pressure course on learning the ins and outs of computers.

Town of Oyster Bay seniors are invited to take part in computer classes to be held at the William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Center that begin Tuesday May 7., announced Town Councilwoman Rebecca M. Alesia.

The classes are held by the Education and Assistance Corp (EAC) Inc. for seniors 60 years of age and older through its SeniorNet program.

“The Town is pleased to extend our partnership with EAC to offer both of these classes to seniors, in an effort to better provide computer education to our older residents,” Alesia said. “The classes are wide ranging, and no prior experience with computers is necessary. Since these classes are no more than 10 people at a time, the most alluring part of these classes is the personal and attentive interactions each senior receives from qualified volunteer instructors.”

Alesia said two classes are being offered at the centrally located town community center, at 28 West Carl St. in Hicksville. They are:

  • Introduction to Computers;
  • What’s New on the Internet;
Both courses will be taught by volunteer instructors and coaches who strive to make learning fun to help seniors adjust to the ever changing world of technology. There is a modest fee for materials.
  • Introduction to Computers will be held on May 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 9:30 a.m. noon.
  • What’s New on the Internet will be offered May 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
