Pet of the Week: Ruby

Meet Ruby, a four-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog who resides with his owner John Baricevich in Sea Cliff.

Baricevich said he hasn't been apart from Ruby since his girlfriend surprised him with the eight-week-old puppy for Christmas four years.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are bred for pulling carts on the farms in Switzerland and also guarding the farms, according to Baricevich. He says the size of the dog can range from 80 to 120 pounds.

Ruby is about 95 pounds, Baricevich said.

"I cant really say that she is all that different from other dogs but she does have her own personality and is very smart," Baricevich said. "She is very loyal to her family and close friends but is wary of strangers. We love to take long walks through Sea Cliff and Glen Cove. I have talked to a lot of people that have dogs, we could use a dog park."
