President's Day in Glen Cove

Most offices are closed, but activities abound

If the weather forecasters are correct, Glen Cove residents will be waking up to a bit of the white stuff this morning, a reminder that winter is not over yet despite last week’s brush with spring. The snow should not amount to much and should not prevent us from enjoying today, the start of winter recess for students.

A look at what is happening today:

 1. Today is President’s Day. All federal, state, county and town offices are closed, as are banks, courts and financial markets. Post offices are closed. The LIRR will run on a holiday schedule.

 2.  With the Glen Cove Public Library also closed today, it might be a good day to check out a movie.  For children, Gnomeo and Juliet (Rated ‘G’) is playing at Glen Cove 6. The critically acclaimed The King’s Speech (rated ‘R’) is also playing. Check local listings for move times.

 3. The New York Islanders play host to the Florida Panthers today at the Nassau Coliseum. The puck drops at 1 p.m.
