Shelter Animal of the Week: Kelly

Kelly is full of personality, and has a very interesting physical trait.

Kelly is a five month-old Domestic Short Hair with lots to say. She will call you right over to her cage! The staff believes she is part Siamese, since that particular breed tends to be more vocal.

But there is one other characteristic of Kelly that makes even more unique: she has six toes on each of her front paws, making them appear like little mittens. This makes her a polydactyl cat, which means she has more than the normal amount of toes.

Cats who have genetically inherited this trait are most commonly found along the East Coast of the United States and in South West England. If a cat is polydactyly, is it sometimes called a "Hemingway cat" or simply "Hemingway" because of the famous author's love of these kinds of animals.

Kelly was born in the shelter, and was the runt of the litter. One could hardly tell, as her big personality makes up for what she lacks in size. She is black and white with a black nose and beautiful yellow eyes.

Shelter staff calls Kelly a "love muffin." She is fun to play with and would make a great companion, one you could hold an entire conversation with!
