Here are some of the stories you might have missed that took place in and around Glen Cove over the past week. 

Glen Cove saw two sets of fireworks over the long holiday weekend. On July 4, residents grabbed a spot at Morgan Park and looked at the Glen Cove skies as they lit up with one of Grucci's many legendary displays. And on July 6, the inaugural Sea Faire festival, which opened Saturday in Glen Cove, offered something for everyone – including fireworks. 

An 18-year-old Brooklyn woman died July 5 after being pulled from the deep end of a pool in Glen Cove, police said. She has been identified as Shana Marie Davy of Brooklyn, according to Newsday, which also reported that the owner of the home said he was not home when the woman had died.

Democratic candidate for Nassau County executive Tom Suozzi laid out some of his ideas on July 1 to grow the region's economy.

A law requiring young boaters to be certified by New York state was passed and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice has issued a report calling for state or federal licensing for all boaters. But officials have told Patch that  the state law is "window dressing" and doesn't do much to stop the dangers on our waters.
