Tree Trimming Project Underway in Glen Cove

PSEG tree trimming project started Jan. 9, will continue for four weeks.

The following is a message from Mayor Reggie Spinello posted on the City of Glen Cove website:

PSEGLI Tree trimming in the area from North of Landing Road and East to Chestnut Street. Followed by work South of Chestnut heading East towards Dosoris and then onto the lower Southeast area of Elm Avenue.

We have received notification about a tree trimming project launched by PSEG Long Island. In the wake of the severe storms that have struck Long Island recently, it was recognized that previous line clearance of 6 feet was not a utility best practice in maintaining reliability and service restoration in the event of an outage.

PSEGLI will prune trees to 10 feet below the power line and 8 feet on the sides and 12 feet above the high voltage power lines. Please know that PSEGLI maintains clearance around electric wires at the top of utility poles, not around the lower telephone and cable television lines.

Tree Trimming Crews are scheduled to work in our neighborhoods beginning January 9, 2014 for about 4 weeks. The schedule and duration of the work could change due to bad weather or emergency response work. According to their notification, PSEGLI uses trimming techniques recommended by the International Society of Arboriculture to protect tree health. They have assured us that they will respect your property if it becomes necessary to enter your property for access to our electric wires. You will not have to be home when this work is performed.
