After 3 Summer Program Survives Funding Loss, With a Price

Glen Cove Youth Bureau summer program continues with $350 fee.

The Glen Cove After 3 summer program will continue this year despite facing the expiration of its 21st Century grant, with a new fee of $350 implemented for the six-week camp.

Applications are available at all Glen Cove School District schools, at the Glen Cove After 3 office at 70 Forest Ave., Suite 2D and at the Glen Cove Youth Bureau office at 128B Glen Street.

The program is open to incoming second to incoming ninth graders due to an increase in parents' requests, according to the Bureau. It begins July 1 and ends August 9, running Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mornings feature three hours of academic enrichment with curriculums including Kidz Lit., Kidz Math and Science Explorers. Afternoons will feature cooking, art, photography and musical instruction. Organized sports and games will also be a focus.

Healthy lunches are provided Monday through Thursday and trips are planned for each Friday.

A payment plan of four payments is available to help ease the cost of the program.

"We are truly looking forward to the summer program as we always have a lot of fun," said a statement from the Glen Cove After 3 program.

The After 3 program's future beyond the summer will depend on whether the grant is awarded again, which will be announced sometime in mid-May, according to the program's office.
