Bards Reading, With Barbara Reiher-Meyers

Come, one and all, to the Bards Reading From Page One poetry reading series, sponsored by The Bards Initiative! We run at Page One on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, with a new feature every time, followed by an open read where everybody's welcome to read with open arms!

Bards Reading From Page One is a fun, intimate reading, with few formailites and even fewer rules. We welcome all forms and styles of poetry equally, including whatever yours might be, so there's no excuse not to come by!

This time, our Performing Bard is particularly distinguished, and not just for her years of service to the Long Island Poetry Collective. She singlehandedly curates and maintains the Long Island Poetry Calendar on Poetz.com, and made it the most complete information repository for currently-running Long Island poetry readings on the Internet. She's the sole compiler for THE Long Island poetry newsletter, in which she tells all the news there is to know about the poetry community, and emails it out to hundreds of eager poetry fans at the start of every week. As a result, she also has the most complete email list of Long Island poets, and has become known as the Godmother of Long Island Poetry, BARBARA REIHER-MEYERS!

As always, get here at 7:30 to order food and put your name down for the open reading at the end, because we go on with Barbara at 8!

This Bards Initiative reading series is free to attend, but your donations are greatly appreciated, every penny of which goes directly to funding our various ongoing projects throughout Long Island. In addition, head chef and co-owner Jeanine DiMenna offers up a special $5 "bar menu" at all of our readings (if you'd prefer to see their standard fare menu, price fix, or reduced-fare "bailout" menu, please ask your server). We highly encourage you to come, relax, and enjoy some dinner with your poetry.

The Bards Initiative is a multi-purpose poetry project dedicated to providing avenues for poets to share their work and encourages the use of poetry for social change. In addition, the Initiative aims to make use of modern technologies to help spread, encourage and inspire poetry particularly in the younger generations. It is the core belief of the Bards Initiative that poetry is the voice of the people and can be used to help create a sense of sharing and community.

Thank you, and I hope to see you all at our readings.
