Press Release: On Saturday, May 12, 2012 the City of Glen Cove will hold its 6th Annual Senior Recognition Day.  All are invited to join seniors and their families for a wonderful celebration in downtown Village Square from 11am to 2pm. (In case of rain, the event will be held at the Senior Center, located at 130 Glen Street.)

In 2007 Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi made Glen Cove the first Long Island community to host such an event. Mayor Suozzi said, “As a City, we feel that it is important to recognize the vast contributions made by this population over the years.  This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to some of the City’s most valuable and active participants.”

Senior Recognition Day is sponsored by the City of Glen Cove, the Glen Cove Senior Center, the Downtown BID and the City’s assisted living and nursing care facilities.  This year, in honor of Senior Day’s 6th Annual celebration, the Senior Day Committee is proud to honor Adrian Hersey with the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his extraordinary contributions over the years. In addition, the 2012 Honoree for the “Volunteer Award” is Dominic Pascucci.

The day will provide the opportunity for seniors to visit a wide variety of vendors offering informational and educational services.  Afternoon activities will feature a free concert by The Les Stanco Group and the Glen Cove Senior Center’s own Golden Voices Choral Group.  Over one hundred seniors and their families are expected to participate in the activities of the day.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Glen Cove Sage Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing services for the senior community.

The Senior Recognition Day Committee would like to honor our centenarians.  If you know of anyone who has been fortunate enough to celebrate their 100th birthday (or more!) and who would like to join in our celebration, kindly contact the Senior Center at 516-759-9610.

For more information on sponsorships or how to participate in Senior Recognition Day, contact the Glen Cove Senior Center at 516-759-9615.
