Glen Cove Sophomore Wins Vocal Contest

Sabrina Ali will perform the National Anthem at La Fuerza Unida's September 30 gala.

Glen Cove High School sophomore Sabrina Ali was selected to sing the National Anthem at La Fuerza Unida's gala at Verdi's on September 30. 

La Fuerza Unida and The Glen Cove Arts Council recently held auditions at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club for a vocalist to perform at the event. 

All the contestants received a certificate of appreciation from La Fuerza and The Glen Cove Arts Council. Contestants were asked to sing The Star Spangled Banner without accompaniment and to have the words memorized.

The winner will not only attend the gala and sing at the event, but will also be presented with a prize of $250.

Ali  studies voice with Jeffrey Norwood in Glenwood Landing and has appeared as Belle in Beauty and the Beast at the Glen Cove Middle School. She was chosen to sing a solo at this year's Glen Cove Middle School graduation ceremony, "Hero" by Mariah Carey and has performed at the school talent show.

Sabrina, who will celebrate her sweet sixteenth birthday in September, comes from a very talented family. Her mother Shernaz Ali, who has lived in Glen Cove for twenty-one years, came here from Bombay, India and was in films in "Bollywood." Sabrina's father Mansoor Ali is a recording artist in India, and her grandfather Mehmood Ali was a legend in India for his comedy films, and has been compared to Danny Kaye and Jerry Lewis.
