Glen Cove Arts Council Holds Fundraiser

Health Care Center hosted fundraiser brunch to raise money for Arts Council, which helps provide underprivileged youth with music programs.

"[Frank] Sinatra came from a low-income, hardworking immigrant family," said Victoria Crosby at Sunday's "Brunch and Sinatra" fundraiser for the Glen Cove Arts Council, which was held at the Pratt Pavilion at .

Glen Cove's poet laureate had just presented the fundraiser's attendees with a poem on the legendary singer's life, an opportunity that Crosby said the Glen Cove Arts Council, which she founded in 2004, hopes to extend to the city's youth.

Crosby used Sinatra as an example of the importance of music, noting a need for music programs in Glen Cove through her poem, followed by music from the "Rat Pack" era performed by vocalists Vincent Roccaro and Susanne Lofaso.

"It's very important to extend these opportunities to as many of our kids as possible," Crosby added, noting that although the Arts Council works through the city's schools and the Boys & Girls Club, the organization receives its funds only from fundraisers like Sunday's.

Crosby was recognized with a citation from Nassau Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton.

The fundraiser received hosting and culinary work donated entirely by the Glengariff Healthcare Center and its staff.

"We at Glengariff have made a commitment to Glen Cove's community, and our grounds are often used for functions such as the Art Council's today," said Bonnie Nogin, the center's director of community outreach.
