LIU Post Chamber Music Festival Celebrating 33rd Summer Season

The festival includes a series of concerts taking place through Aug. 1.

The LIU Post Chamber Music Festival, now in its thirty-third summer season, is holding a series of concerts, including by The Pierrot Consort, and will go through August 1.  

The festival is an intensive, three-week program that focuses on the study and performance of the standard chamber music repertoire, and includes a concert series with performances at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts and Hillwood Recital Hall at LIU Post. In addition to The Pierrot Consort, special guests and festival participants will also perform.

The final concerts of the festival, the Seminar Chamber Orchestra and the Festival Chamber Orchestra, will feature festival participants. Upcoming concerts on the schedule include:

Educational Residency & Master Classes featuring Lawrence Dutton, violist of the Emerson String Quartet, July 24, 2 p.m., Hillwood Recital Hall: As part of a daylong Educational Residency at the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival, an informal concert/master class will be given by Lawrence Dutton in which selected festival participants perform for Dutton.  Dutton is a master musician who has collaborated with many of the world’s best performing artists and won the Avery Fisher Prize as a member of the Emerson String Quartet.  Free Admission.

Nature & Folk Music: The Pierrot Consort joined by Festival faculty members Nam-Sook Choei Lee, violinist and Frank Cassara, marimba, July 25, 8 p.m., Hillwood Recital Hall: The second concert of the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival combines music influence by nature and folk music. Performers include The Pierrot Consort and festival faculty members Nam-Sook Choei Lee, violin and Frank Cassara, marimba. Performances will include Haydn, String Quartet in D Major “Lark”, Gottry “Desert Clouds” for flute, violin and marimba, Ginastera “Impresiones de la Puna” for flute and strings and Brahms, Quintet for Piano and String in F minor, Op. 34. General admission $20; seniors and students $10.

Chamber Music Concert, July 30, 8 p.m., Hillwood Recital Hall: Participants from the annual LIU Post Chamber Music Festival perform chamber music. Program to be announced. General admission $12; seniors and students $8.

Seminar Concert, July 31, 12 p.m., Hillwood Recital Hall: Chamber music performed by young festival participants from the Festival’s Seminar Program. Program to be announced. Suggested contribution: $5.

Chamber Music Concert, July 31, 8 p.m., Hillwood Recital Hall: Participants from the annual LIU Post Chamber Music Festival perform chamber music. General admission $12; seniors and students $8.

Festival Chamber Orchestra Concert, 8 p.m., Tilles Center Concert Hall: Performance by the Festival Chamber Orchestra and the winner of the 2014 Festival Concerto Competition under the direction of Susan Deaver, conductor. Works to be performed include music of C.P.E. Bach, Haydn, Dvorak, Ginastera and a concerto featuring the winner of the Festival Concerto Competition. General admission $15; seniors and students $10.
