Local High School Students Take Downtown Sounds

Matt and All His All Stars opened the show Friday, August 12 to a packed crowd

Local music group Matt and All His All Stars, comprised entirely of young local musicians took the stage Friday, August 12, as they opened the show for the premier Billy Joel tribute band, Big Shot.

Lead by Glen Cove High School Sophomore Matt Grabowski, drummer and vocalist, the group also featured local talent Sabrina Ali on songs including "Saturday in the Park", and "25 Or 6 to 4".  The set list comprised entirely of the legendary band Chicago's hits.

The band also featured Josh Mundell and D'metrius Fernandez on the trombone, Mike Loria and Mike Marg on the trumpet, Nick Krisch and Joe Nicolich on the saxophones, Maria Krisch on the keyboard, Kevin Oliveira on the bass, and Orion Marchese on the guitar.

Grabowski said he chose the set list because he wanted something different.  "At the time I was asked to get a group together, I was listening to a lot of Chicago," Grabowski explained.  "I didn't want the traditional bass, guitar, drums, and vocals, so I decided we'd go for Chicago.  It was extra hard work cutting down the music, but I think it was well worth it."

After the All Stars, the Billy Joel tribute band, Big Shot, took the stage to a packed downtown.
