UPDATE: Police Shoot Drug Suspect in Locust Valley

Cops: Suspect backed his car into officer, who answered with gunfire.

Nassau County Police making a traffic stop in Locust Valley were forced to shoot a man as he backed his car into a police officer, police said. 

The incident took place Monday night near Locust Valley High School. The suspect, who has not been identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Multiple sources and police confirmed a shooting took place about 10 p.m. Monday night on Horse Hollow Court not far from the high school.

Police said the suspect was wanted in connection with an ongoing drug investigation and was on parole. The suspect, had numerous prior arrests, according to a report in Newsday.

The driver was pulled over on Horse Hollow Court. When police approached, the driver backed into one of the officers, knocking him to the ground, Newsday reported. Fearing for his safety, the officer fired at the suspect, wounding him, police told Newsday.

The officer suffered a knee injury; he was treated and released from a local hospital. 

At least one account reported that police called for a medevac helicopter to land at the high school. The incident did not happen on school property.
