A Hidden Gem in the City

The Hideaway Restaurant in Glen Cove provides patrons with great food and scenery as well as a chance to create dining memories.

Hidden away in the Glen Cove Marina, The Hideaway Restaurant lives true to its name. This amazing new restaurant sits right on water and its outdoor seating lets you experience the great beauty and atmosphere of the city's waterfront.

Family owned and managed, this hidden gem has one of the friendliest staff around that I've seen. I think the whole point of dining out is when good company and good food get together to make good memories. When you eat at The Hideaway, you get all of that and then some.

I recently ate there with three good friends on a Friday evening, and we had a wide assortment of dishes that the restaurant had to offer, but we didn't even scratch the surface of its menu choices.

We started off sampling its Fresh Calamari ($6.95), which was served with a very tasty marinara sauce, the best one I've had in a very long time. For the main course, one of my friends ordered its Chicken Caesar Salad ($9.95) and the other ordered the Chicken Florentine Sandwich ($9.95). After they both reluctantly let me taste their dishes because they loved them so much, the chicken sandwich came out on top.

I ordered one of the specials, a burger in-between a toasted Texas bread, topped with bacon, tomato, fresh lettuce, slightly grilled onions, cheddar cheese and a creamy ranch sauce ($9.95). It was cooked just the way I ordered it, and came with a pickle and very good side of seasoned fries. The burger I had was good, but I wish I would have ordered the Chicken Florentine, because it came with spinach, Portobello mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The chicken was so amazingly tender, it literally fell apart in your mouth.

This restaurant also offers live musical entertainment on Friday nights, and after dinner, we stayed and listened to the music. It became a night that I would never forget.

The Hideaway Restaurant is going to be one of my new favorite places to eat this summer, and I especially plan to dine outside on its patio each time I visit. The restaurant's pleasant staff and tasty dishes made the visit a really great experience. They were attentive to our needs and as an added bonus, the staff even turned on the Mets game on for me even though the restaurant's owner is a Yankee fan.

Do yourself a favor and go eat at this hidden place by the Long Island Sound. While you're there, make sure you order the Chicken Florentine.
