Biz Nearby: Furrier Closing, E-Cigarette Shop Opening

Mikhail Gutman is retiring from the fur biz. 

Gutman, owner of Glen Cove Furrier, says things have changed since he set up shop over 30 years ago. Decreasing demand for furs and the sustained physical requirements of the job have prompted him to close his shop by the first week of January. 

"My father was in the fur business in Russia and here for over 50 years," he said. "I came here to continue the business in 1978. I had a shop in Manhattan for three years then came to Glen Cove. I had more customers, more storage," he said. Read on.

Wine & Design Coming to Syosset

A North Carolina-based company that specializes in wine and art parties will soon be coming to Jackson Avenue in Syosset.

The company, Wine & Design, already has 28 locations throughout the US. The store will be a meeting place for friends and family to gather to appreciate fine wine while expressing their creative side in a fun, social environment. 

Wine & Design offers two-hour painting classes taught buy local instructors and designed with both beginners and experts in mind. Read on.

An e-cigarette store known as VapeNY will open at the former Aminence site on Austin Street in Forest Hills later this month.

VapeNY, which opened the city's first e-cigarette store in Manhattan in 2011, will debut its new store on Nov. 29. Read on
