JoJo Apples Closed for Business

An employee at the restaurant's Point Lookout location confirmed the restaurant is closed.

JoJo Apples Cafe Too has closed its doors for good, according to the restaurant's sister location in Point Lookout.

Locked doors and a darkened interior were an ominous sign of the popular eatery's fate earlier this month. Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce executive director Phyllis Gorham said she had heard rumors that it had closed but had not heard why.

The building's owner, who asked not to be named, said the restaurant faced high operating costs.

"It was hard for them to make it in Glen Cove. The tax burden on the property is way, way too high," he said.

The closing comes weeks shy of JoJo Apples' two-year anniversary in February.

The restaurant received positive reviews in Glen Cove Patch's Readers' Choice contests last year, taking second place for Best Pancakes and Best Spot for Mother's Day Brunch.

I am so sorry that they closed. We enjoyed the restaurant. Good food, homey atmosphere and friendly service. Out of towners that came to visit us always wanted to go there to eat. It will be missed. Pt. Lookout is a little too far to go for a nice dinner. I heard that the building had been sold. Don't know if this is true or not...

According to the building's owner, it has not.

It's a shame - the taxes are way toooooooo high here for business (and homeowners) to honestly survive - eventually everyone will go and maybe be replaced by others, maybe not...... I know other places here in Glen Cove - I couldnt believe the amount of money City Hall is asking these Restaurants to pay for taxes....... I am friendly with the owners of the JoJo's building (but out of respect for their privacy wont tell you who they are) I am also freinds with some Italian Restaurants right here in Glen Cove.........and they truly are hurting paying these ridiculous taxes !!.........Lower the taxes for these business and home owners..... Get Avalon to pay if they havent yet started to pay you since they had a time period they were allowed not to pay GC taxes ( and us homeowners had to pick up the slack)!!
