Jones Beach to Serve as Parking Area for The Barclays Tournament

Ticket-holders driving to professional golf event at nearby Bethpage State Park instructed to park vehicles at Wantagh site for shuttle bus service.

Golf fans driving to The Barclays Tournament later this week at  in Farmingdale will be first making their way through Wantagh. 

The Barclays, which will feature golf superstars Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, is utilizing in Wantagh, located about 12 miles from the famed , as its parking site. Barclays ticket-holders not taking the Long Island Rail Road to the event are instructed to park their vehicles at Jones Beach Parking Fields 3 or 4 and a direct shuttle bus will transport them to and from the tournament scheduled to run from Thursday to Sunday with a practice round Tuesday and Pro-Am competition Wednesday. The cost to ride the shuttle bus is $10 per vehicle. 

George Gorman of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said when Jones Beach served as a parking area for the U.S Open golf tournament in 2002 and 2009, which were both held at Bethpage Black, that the process went very smoothly. Gorman said he does not anticipate any parking issues with regular beach-goers since there is an ample number of available spots. He said signage will be posted around the entrance to Jones Beach providing instructions for those attending The Barclays Tournament, which is the first event of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup.

@Michelle Barr. Fans can also attend the tournament via the Long Island Rail Road with shuttle service from the Farmingdale train station. Still doesn't change the fact that no local business are being able to get any windfall from attendance. If your attending you can't get naywhere near the neighborhood and your not going to walk from the railroad and then back to get something to eat or shop you will just leave when your done. Not to mention if you go during the afternoon the shuttle from jones beacj can take an hour!
