Networking for a Worthy Cause

The Metropolitan catering hall to co-host weekly job fair and charity event this year.

Tomorrow evening will mark the start of something new in Glen Cove.

Along with The Metropolitan catering hall, WKTU 103.5 DJ Jenny Costa and longtime corporate promoter Lisa Cotoggio are slated to kickoff a weekly Corporate Networking Happy Hour Party to help professionals find employment.

Organizers describe the multi-room event as a "job fair mixed with a happy hour" because it allows people to meet and greet in a "relaxed social gathering." Proceeds from the fair, which is scheduled to be held every Thursday this year, will be donated to Long Island charities. Portions of this month's events will go to the St. Mary's Children's Fund.

Out of work or looking for a great new opportunity? Seeking out that next great employee? Then this event just might be for you. Representatives from banking and financial institutions, schools and universities, police and fire departments, publishing companies and more are expected to attend the fair.

There will also be a drop basket for résumés, and organizers said, copies of each résumé will be made and given to the staffing companies.

"Hopefully, people will find jobs by doing this," Costa said. "The music is not super loud and you come here with your friends and meet new ones."

Costa and Cotoggio have been running similar events in the area for the last 12 years, but in the past, they have been working for clubs and catering halls. Tomorrow will mark the first time the two professionals have set out on their own.

"When people lose their jobs they call me," said Cotoggio. "I had this woman call who worked for a mortgage company and I was able to introduce her to people at mortgage companies."

"This party will be an amazing event," Costa added. "There's an amazing energy and I almost get to know everybody that comes."

Organizers request that attendees bring their résumé and dancing shoes to the fair. Admission is free, cocktails will be half-priced and nibblers will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. But the party doesn't end there, entertainment will continue until 11 p.m.
