New Nursery School Offers “Drop & Dine”

"Drop & Shop" and "Drop & Dine" begin this month at the Ladybug Playhouse Nursery School.

The – a new business in Glen Cove – may grab the attention of local parents longing for a night out.

“Drop & Shop” and “Drop & Dine,” which are two unique programs offered by the school, begin this month.

After registering for the Drop & Shop program, parents can drop off their children ages 2-8 every Friday for up to three hours to run errands, grocery shop, etc.

“...And you don’t feel guilty because the kids will be active and having fun,” said owner Andrea Costa-Rothstock.

Drop & Dine is also held twice a month on Friday, starting at 6 p.m.

The colorful, state-of-the-art facility, located on Glen Cove Avenue, includes multiple classrooms and play areas.

One room is built like a miniature piazza, and allows children to play “pretend” doctor, grocery shopper, and coffee shop or boutique owner.

The Mineola native, who opened Ladybug Playhouse in September, is a certified teacher with a Masters Degree in Literacy. She taught for eight years in different regions of New York, including Brooklyn and Bellmore on Long Island.

Costa-Rothstock was inspired to open a facility after enrolling her own son in nursery school.

“I thought: I could do this so much better,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to own my own business. When this opportunity came, I took it, and I ran with it.”

The Ladybug Playhouse class curriculum includes math, science, technology, literacy, art/gym, music and dramatic play. Children ages 2-5 have the opportunity to work in group settings, as well as independently.

There is also a smart board and touch screen computers, giving young students a chance to experience the world of technology.

“I wanted it to be a fun place for kids,” she said. “Their first school experience is the most important school experience they’re going to have. If they could love school from now, chances are they’ll love school forever.”

Costa-Rothstock additionally noted that all of her teachers are New York State certified.

Additional programs the Ladybug Playhouse features are Mommy/Daddy/Anybody & Me classes and birthday parties.
