Opinion: In With The Old And The New

Glen Cove restaurateur Jeanine DiMenna speaks about her role overseeing operations at the Soundview at the Glen Cove Golf Course.

As a life-long resident of and 17-year-long business owner in Glen Cove, I am well aware of how hard it is to keep a secret in this city.

So, when I assumed the position of overseeing operations at the Soundview at the Glen Cove Golf Course (soon to be The View Grill), I knew that word would spread like wildfire. And it did even before Mayor Suozzi’s very complimentary letter in recent issues of both the Gold Coast Gazette and Glen Cove Record Pilot.

But the problem is that as the Mayor’s letter stated, circumstances dictated that I take over relatively quickly because golf season was starting and the restaurant had to be up and running for the first two outings in May. After that, I agreed to finish out the season and then one thing lead to another and before I knew it, I was in the unique position of running two restaurants in the same city!

Well, at least I know my competition! But there are a number of impediments that will have to be overcome before we can operate as a full-service restaurant at The View. (For example, obtaining a liquor license, which we have already applied for, requires a waiting period.)

Consequently, for now, The View is open for business for golfers and other people who enjoy Stanco Park during day-time hours only (i.e., from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.). However, rest assured, we will offer a dinner menu in the not-too-distant future, so stay tuned! But until then (and any time thereafter, for that matter), you are all still welcome at Page One Restaurant seven days a week for lunch and dinner, so don’t hesitate to come by. After all, Page One will always have my full attention such that a visit will be exactly what you have come to expect since I began at the restaurant in 1997.

But by also calling the shots at The View, I will be able to offer Glen Cove and the surrounding region some diversity; specifically, Classic American Family food like baked clams, shrimp cocktail, steaks, chops and the like.

So, if you crave such, once we are up and running, I invite you to give The View Grill on the Glen Cove Golf Course a try. And of course, until that point and at any time thereafter, if you desire New American Modernist cuisine, the place to go is still Page One Restaurant on 90 School Street.

After all, no matter how many restaurants I oversee, Page One will always be first in my book!

Sincerely,

Jeanine DiMenna
